10 TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL INSTAGRAM

Heeey Guys 🙂

I recently celebrated 150.000 followers on Instagram and thought it would be about time to share my secrets on how I built my Instagram account. 🙂 I started my blog and Instagram in May 2016 and am SO HAPPY that i were able to reach that many people within only one year.

Before I start, I want to say that there is not a one way recipe to grow your account but these are tips that helped me along the way. 🙂

  1. Chose your niche

This is the most important one! Before you start your Instagram account, think carefully about what you want to post about. Choose something that you are truly passionate about because you will deal with with every day from now. Choosing a niche is so important because it will give your followers a reason to follow you. My account is all about fitness, health and traveling. I want to inspire people to live a healthier life by showing them my personal lifestyle. 🙂

  2. Be yourself

Don’t try to copy someone else. You are unique and people want to see that. Your followers want to get to know the real you, they want to feel like they are your friend. I know it can be scary to put yourself out there but the real you is the only one who is going to succeed. Be authentic, show your personality and don’t try to be perfect. 🙂

  3. Be passionate about what you are doing

As I mentioned in tip 1 you have to be passionate about your topic. I have always been the biggest fruit and fitness lover! Since I discovered the vegan lifestyle, all I wanted to do was to tell people how amazing this diet is. I was so fascinated by the fact that you can always eat as much as you want at every single meal time and still lose weight/ get in better shape at the same time!  I suggested this diet to everyone around me and became the go to person to ask for fitness advise. My blog and Instagram  was a way to communicate with others and to help them on their journey. I sometimes answer Instagram messages, emails and bog comments until 2-3 am and if I wasn’t that passionate about a vegan lifestyle, I wouldn’t enjoy what I’m doing. 🙂

  4. Create regular content

Upload pictures regularly! It can be tough to find the time, dedication and inspiration to share high quality content every day but it is the only way to keep your followers entertained and inspired. If you don’t post on a regular basis people will forget about your account and eventually unfollow you the next time you post a picture. Look at Instagram as a job where you have to be present every day if you want to be successful.  🙂

  5. Post at the right time

Timing is everything. If you post at the wrong time, chances are that people never see your post. The most popular hashtags are being used a million times a day which means your picture will only be seen a few minutes until a few hundred new pictures are shown above your post. Find out where your followers are located and post according to their time zone. During the week, its good to post in the evening when people spend more time on social media. On the weekends it doesn’t matter that much. 🙂 My followers are mostly from the US, the UK and Germany. That’s why I usually post between 6-8 pm London time so my US followers are awake as well. 🙂

  6. Learn how to edit pictures

It helps a lot if you know how to edit your pictures. There is no right or wrong. Find a personal style that you like and try to stick to it through out your feed. You want your feed to have an overall beautiful look which means all pictures should go well together and create some sort of harmony.  My tip:  Less is more 🙂 don’t overuse filters, contrasts etc. and keep it as natural as possible.:) My favorite apps are: VSCO, Snapseed, Facetune and Slug

  7. Update your Insta story

Insta stories are becoming more and more popular and are a great way to show your followers an insight of your every day life. Keep your stories real and use them to show your personality. I love to show my every day food and workouts to keep my followers inspired. 🙂 It’s a great way to show a glimpse of your daily life and gives you the chance to connect even more with your followers. 🙂

  8. Be nice and take your followers seriously

Being nice and kind is SO IMPORTANT in life! :- ) I love to be around nice people and think we should all treat each other the way we want to be treated. When someone takes the time to like your picture and even leave a comment, be thankful and reply to questions. 🙂  I always told myself to be grateful for every follower and to take questions seriously. It feels amazing to be able to inspire and to help people.  I try to respond to ALL comments and emails even if that sometimes means staying up until 2-3 am. Give people a reason to follow you and make them feel appreciated.

  9. Invest in a good camera

A high quality camera will help you so much!  The competition on Instagram has become so big that you need to have good quality pictures to be able to compete with other big accounts. I use the Fuji X T 10 & Sony 7 r ii camera.

  10. Use hashtags

Last but not least don’t forget to use hashtags. 🙂 Hashtags have been around forever but are still quite helpful and give you the chance for more exposure. 🙂 Search for the most used hashtags as well as special occasion hashtags and choose the most suitable ones. You can use 30 hashtags per post but be careful not to post them in the first comment  since Instagram has changed its algorithm and is shadow banning pictures with hashtags in the comments.

I hope you guys find this post helpful and can use some my tips. 🙂

Sending you all a big hug! 🙂

xx Caroline

Hey Caroline,
first of I wanted to tell you what for an inspiration you are for me!
Especially with this post where you also show for how important your followers are for you!:)
I have a question I’d like to ask.
I’m trying to be vegan (even though my parents are forbidding me that, so I’m trying to eat as least as possible from meat and mostly no diary products already). My problem is that I have anorexia. I’m already at a good weigh but I only eat 1230 calories per day and I’m just too afraid to eat more 🙁 I really want to eat so many amazing fruits but I’m just too scared that I might gain weight. Also I do have to eat meat from time to time. Do you maybe have any tips how I could overcome this fear?
Much love, Lilly c:

Danke, für diesen tollen Tipp. Irgendwie fällt es mir sehr schwer, das umzusetzen, da mein Leben sehr bunt ist und aus sehr vielen verschiedenen Facetten besteht, haha.

Hey gotgeous, thanks for this

Could you elaborate a bit more on the “not write the hashtags in the comments” though?

I always thought that was the best place! I didnt understand very well what you said Ig is now doing about this

Thanks! And congrats! That amount of followers in a year is crazy! You deserve them though, you are so thoughtful and attentive

Your post gets shadow-banned if you do which means your photo won’t show up in the hashtags for people that don’t follow you already.

Hiii,
I’ve been doing the vegan challenge for the about 2 1/2 weeks. I cannot believe how all my usual food cravings are gone. I’m eating 90% fruits 10%butterbut squash sweet potatoes etc.- my only issue is bloat. I am very thin naturally but since I started the vegan challenge I’m bloating at times. Is this normal?
Thanks!!!!

Hey LOVE!

I was curious is you set a tripod with your camera most times for all your great pics or do you use a photographer? Also, do you download onto your computer and then edit there?

Thank you and keep the good info coming!

Cali

    Hi Cali

I usually do the camera settings first and then ask my boyfriend or a friend who is around to take a couple of shots. 🙂
After that, I upload them to my phone and use the app VSCO & Snapseed to edit them. :))

    Hope that helps!

Hi Caroline, currently I’m ill and I think that’s the fastest way to loose weight. The problem is: I’m a real coffee-lover (which is why my teeth got a bit more yellow, but never mind). My question is: Do you think coffee leads me to eating more? Or not feeling full at all? xx Charlie

Caroline Deisler June 24, 2017 Reply

    Hi Charlie,

coffee is really aggressive on your stomach and hinders the protein absorption. I dont think it changes your feeling of beeing full at all!

    Hope that helps
    xx Caroline
